Apple has officially announced the date for its highly-anticipated iPhone 12 event - Tuesday 13th October 2020 at 1pm EST/10am PST. The event this year will be streamed directly from Apple Park and will be completely virtual, just like WWDC 2020 in June and the ‘Time Flies’ event in September, because of COVID-19. Apple is teasing this month’s event with a “Hi, Speed” tagline. Will this year’s iPhone lineup actually be called ‘iPhone 12?’ That’s what all the rumors suggest, but we’ll only know for sure when the event begins. Just last month, on 15th September 2020, Apple held a virtual event to announce the Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 6, iPad Air 4th generation and the 8th generation iPad. Apple also revealed some new subscription services like Fitness+ and the Apple One bundle. According to 9to5Mac, the “Hi, Speed” tagline is a clear hint at the iPhone 12 and its expected 5G connectivity and A14 processor. The circular rings also resemble the Siri interface amid rumors of a smaller HomePod. The blue color shade of the invite could also be a hint at the ‘Midnight Blue’ color option that is reportedly coming with the iPhone 12 lineup — it also just so happens to match the new blue Apple Watch Series 6. Whether or not the orange on the invite also represents a new iPhone 12 color is unknown. Apple’s October event will be live-streamed across Apple’s website, in the Apple TV app and on YouTube. The primary focus for the iPhone 12 event will, of course, be the iPhone 12. Apple is expected to unveil four (4) new iPhone 12 models this year:
The differentiating factor between these iPhone 12 models will be the camera technology. The 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 are expected to feature dual-lens camera set-ups on the back, while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will feature triple-lens camera arrays on the back with an all-new LiDAR Scanner as well. Other features of the iPhone 12 lineup include OLED displays across the board as well as 5G connectivity. The iPhone 12 lineup will reportedly support mmWave 5G as well as sub-6GHz 5G. In terms of design, the devices are expected to feature flat edges similar to the iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and the latest iPad Pro. Reports currently indicate that Apple is planning a staggered release schedule for the iPhone 12, with some models potentially not being available until November. It’s possible other products may also be revealed at the iPhone 12 event, including Apple’s AirPods Studio (over-ear headphones), AirTag (item trackers), a new Apple TV and Siri Remote, and news about the Apple Silicon transition for the Mac.
